"EL Cuchara", the "Shovel" in English is one of the greatest players to ever play in the Negro Leagues of Baseball. He had all the tools and was an exceptional fielder, scooping up everything, hence the nickname. Amazingly, though unsanctioned, MLB Allstars, would play Negro League Allstars in "Barnstorming" events and during those games players like Babe Ruth went toe to toe with guys like "Pop" Lloyd. Ruth assessed that, "Pop Lloyd is the greatest player I have ever seen." When a guy like Babe Ruth says something like that, you know it was a shame he was not playing in the MLB. All we can do today is make a big effort for Negro League players like him and ALL of the others that played in that league, to keep and or put them into our collective conscience.
